About Iain

I first began Landscaping in 1995, self-employed in my first business ‘The Landscape Studio’ based in Nottingham.  This company in the early years specialised in garden maintenance, with a few commissions for landscape construction work.  After my graduation from Nottingham Trent University in 1998, the emphasis of the business moved from garden maintenance to designing and building gardens.  I began teaching landscape construction, surveying and computer aided design on a part-time basis at Nottingham Trent University in 2002 along side my landscaping contracts.  By 2005 I was teaching full-time at Nottingham Trent University, but in 2007 I relocated to Somerset to take a promotion and manage the university level Landscape Design programmes at Bridgwater College’s Cannington Centre. I have been managing and teaching on this programme as well as other FE Horticulture programmes, and have taught many different subjects including landscape design principles and practices, surveying, landscape construction, computer aided design, project management, business, plant identification and horticultural practices amongst other things. In 2012 I took over the management of the horticulture courses alongside the design programmes, but in 2013, due to poor student recruitment on to these courses I was made redundant from the college. I made the decision to return to my roots, and set up a new landscaping business, this was the birth of Somer Breeze Landscapes, specialising in Landscape design and build, and offering consultation on design, construction and planting, as well as the project management of landscape builds.  With the 10 years of experience in teaching, I also offer training in landscape design and landscape construction, amongst other possible subjects, and also in the operation of a number of garden and landscape machines.
